Fatal Car Crashes Involving Teens Decrease by a Third

Monday, October 25th, 2010

shutterstock_2657203According to a new federal report, fatal car accidents involving teen drivers dropped by about a third over the span of five years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the number of teen deaths fell dramatically from approximately 2,200 in 2004 to 1,400 in 2008. The report partly credits the drop to tougher driving restrictions placed on younger drivers.

The CDC looked at fatal accidents involving drivers who were 16 or 17 years of age. There were more than 9,600 such incidents during the five-year span and more than 11,000 people died in the crashes. The rate of these fatal crashes has been declining since 1996. Experts believe that stricter laws and restrictions on teens (including curbing when teens can drive and when they can carry passengers) is the chief reason for the decline.

According to Russ Rader, a spokesman for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an Arlington, Va.-based research group funded by auto insurance companies, “It’s not that teens are becoming safer, it’s that state laws enacted in the last 15 years are taking teens out of the most hazardous driving situations.”

Honda is set to launch a recall

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller Sign Divorce Agreement

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

shutterstock_2168977Actor Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller signed divorce papers late last month. Speculation of an impending divorce surfaced last December when Sheen was arrested for alleged domestic abuse.

Per the 41-page agreement, Sheen and Mueller will share joint custody of their two children. The couple signed a 60-page prenuptial agreement that provided Brooke with an annual allowance ($300,000) in the event of divorce. Mueller waived spousal support but she will receive $55,000 a month in child support.

The divorce agreement papers were signed just hours after the actor’s luxury vehicle was found lying about 100 feet over the side of Mulholland Drive. The car was abandoned when police arrived. Sheen has claimed was unaware the car was missing. The car accident is almost identical to an incident that occurred in February.
